Introduction: Rest importance before measuring blood pressure (BP) at office is known; but nor the importance of the fall or the rest’s duration effect aren’t known. The aim was to evaluate the importance of the fall of BP value after a prolonged rest in diabetic and hypertensive patients.

Methods: We ran a cross sectional study from January to February 2016 at Obesity National Centre of Yaounde. Were included all diabetics and hypertensive patients agreeing, coming in consultation, pregnant women were excluded. BP was took seated after 15(PA15), 30(PA30) et 45(PA45) minutes of rest. All the BP of a patient were taken by the same physician. Electronic sphygmomanometers were used. BP< 140/90 mmHg defined a good control.

Results: Were included 59 (40 women) participants with mean age of 62,97±8,4 years. Comparatively to PA15, it was a significant reduction of 9,95±16,1 (- 6,5 %) mmHg (p< 0,001) for systolic BP (SBP) and 3,50±7,41 (- 3,9 %) mmHg (p=0,001) for diastolic BP (DBP) 30. Same, SBP45 et DBP45 were respectively 14, 42 (- 9,4 %) mmHg (p< 0,001) and 5,85 (- 6,6 %) mm Hg (p< 0,001) less than BP15 (p=0,001). BP45 misclassified 9 % and 14,7 % as poor control at BP30 and BP45 respectively

Conclusion: Resting for 45 minutes rather than the recommended 10-15 may improve the reliability of the office blood pressure values.
