Introduction /background: Valve prosthesis surgery refer to the replacement of someone ҆s natural valve with a biological or mechanical one; there are a lot of nursing
considerations and assistance involved in the management of these clients pre, intra, post operatively and while at home.
Each year particularly with our experience, the number of clients undergoing valve surgery is increasing significantly; the puzzle remains about the care or how these clients shall embrace their normal lifestyle with this new state of health; in a third World country like ours, the professional nurse need in-depth knowledge and has a key role to play for these patients within and without the health structures;
Surgical considerations: Sociobiographic data
, disease pathogenesis ,medication compliance, female gender issues, etc
Role of specialized nurse at the post-operative phase: Medication administration
, education on lifestyle modifications,
other related patient teachings and what to expect,(OUTCOMES)? etc
Conclusion: A patient with valve prosthesis is a patient for life.
